The more toxic a food is the more it creates a compulsive need to absorb it again. It has a drug-like effect in that absorbing it creates a feeling of satisfaction or soothes an underlying anxiety the same way a cigarette does. If someone addicted to smoking has a cigarette to light up when the anxiety is emerging, the anxiety will not appear, yet if he has no cigarette his anxiety may push him to go quite far from home to find a place to buy the drug!

A toxic food can both create anxiety and alleviate it, just like the cigarette does. But, usually, the craving for the cigarette is already the expression of the toxic effect of some food and this is why the need for the cigarette is strongest after a meal.

It is a well-known fact among cardiologists that heart attacks and tachycardia fits happen after a meal, but strangely this fact has not caught the attention of the medical community and no studies have been conducted to assert that such attacks are due to food toxicity. They are usually related to the quantity of the food absorbed during the meal and the efforts by the body to digest it.
